Congress and the Trump administration want to pay for their tax cuts on the rich by gutting Medicaid and Social Security. In April, Senate Republicans proposed a budget that would permanently extend Trump’s 2017 tax cuts–redistributing trillions to corporations and the wealthy–while slashing nearly $1 trillion from Medicaid, which covers 8 million New Yorkers, and enshrining cuts to Social Security Administration funding, threatening benefits for 1 in 5 New Yorkers. Budget negotiations will intensify in the coming months, ahead of the September 30th deadline.
We are in a moment of crisis. The oligarch-backed Trump Administration is waging a coordinated assault on working people–attacking federal workers, dismantling the social safety net, and undermining our democracy.
