Socialist Soccer League

Our Spring 2026 season will start March 29 and continue through June 21, games will happen Sundays 2-5pm. We will also have a pre-season warmup sessions on March 15 and March 22.

Our fields will be booked around Sara D Roosevelt park in lower Manhattan, playing half-field games.

Once we hit 200 sign ups, additional sign ups will be put on a waitlist and contacted when further spots on teams open up.

Please read and review the LEAGUE RULES AND LIABILITY WAIVER document before proceeding, as required by new Parks Dept. regulations.

General rules:

  1. No slide tackling
  2. No cleats, turf shoes are preferred.
  3. We will be self-refereeing
  4. Teams should make generous foul calls
  5. There will be unlimited substitutions during the games
  6. Teams can substitute players at any point during play (“hockey subs”)
  7. There will be a required fee of $30 for all participants.
    • Cost will not be an impediment that prevents anyone from playing. If the minimum fee is a financial burden you can’t accommodate, we will reduce or waive it, by request.
    • If you are able to register with an amount above $30, it would be greatly appreciated — as it helps us upgrade league equipment, buy more food & first aid, plan social events, and pay for future field bookings. Soccer rec leagues in NYC on average cost +$100, our registration fee is well below what you’d pay elsewhere.
  9. Non-DSA members are allowed and welcome, and still expected to adhere to our code of conduct.

We want to keep this league as diverse and inclusive as possible. To that end, please make space for women and non-binary players in your teams; as a rule of thumb, we would like to encourage teams to have at least two women or non-binary people on the field at a time. Of course this might not always be possible and we definitely don’t want to put extra pressure on players who aren’t cis-men: just be mindful! 🙂

Also, please respect the other people using the park with us, so please try not to drill shots into the groups of old guys gambling on the edges of the park!!!
