STATEMENT: The Democratic Party Failed Us. Only A Working-Class Agenda Can Defeat Trump.

A better world is possible and DSA is organizing for it.

After running one of the most venomous campaigns in U.S. political history, Donald Trump has again won a presidential election. He reached unprecedented lows with a toxic stew of fascism, nativism, and demonization of immigrants and trans people, while uplifting oligarchs like Elon Musk–the richest man in the world–who seek a return to the Gilded Age. His allies created Project 2025, a right-wing road map that includes mass deportations and the elimination of more than a million federal jobs and the critical public services they provide.

Up against Trump’s agenda of grievance, the Democratic Party and Biden’s administration failed to address the cost-of-living crisis at a moment when working class people’s lives are increasingly precarious. Instead of an ambitious, progressive domestic agenda, the party doubled down on austerity, support for war criminals and billionaires, and scolding people of conscience objecting to Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza. In the final months, Harris’s campaign pivoted away from overwhelmingly popular economic policies and messaging under pressure from wealthy elites who poured billions into this election to maintain an unjust status quo.

Trump’s return to the White House is an existential threat to everything democratic socialists believe. From empowering billionaires, to dismantling unions, to undermining bodily autonomy, to endangering immigrant and LGBT communities, Trump and his white nationalist movement are building a country that works for the 1% and no one else.

Under Trump, we will organize together in solidarity, and we will not give an inch. NYC-DSA fights for the working class — and wins. Our movement has defeated billionaires and their cronies, elected socialists at every level of government, and is challenging Eric Adams’s austerity rule by running Zohran for Mayor. We passed laws that protected tenants, taxed the rich, and won billions for our city’s most exploited workers. With United Auto Workers and AOC, we won groundbreaking Green New Deal legislation in New York State: the Build Public Renewables Act. Our members unionized their workplaces from Amazon to Starbucks and beyond. And our chapter continues to push for an end to the genocide in Palestine.

This election is over. The fight to defeat fascism is just beginning. A better world is possible. Organize with those who are making it happen. Join DSA.
