Unions, healthcare workers, legislative champions, advocacy groups and New Yorkers facing loss of coverage rally outside a safety net hospital in the Bronx demanding state leaders preserve healthcare by taxing the rich
Bronx, NY –– Unions, healthcare workers, elected officials, advocacy organizations and New Yorkers personally facing the loss of their healthcare due to federal funding cuts will rally outside Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx calling on state leaders to tax the rich to preserve healthcare for over a million New Yorkers.
On July 1st, 460,000 New Yorkers lost Essential Plan coverage due to federal cuts to the social safety net. Next year, an additional 500,000+ New Yorkers will be at risk to lose their healthcare due to Medicaid work requirements imposed by the Trump administration. Safety net hospitals like Montefiore will be forced to slash services, understaff care, and potentially lay off critical healthcare workers. These cuts to healthcare were created by the Trump Administration through HR-1 to deliver New York’s wealthiest a $12 billion dollar tax cut annually.
