NYC-DSA RE-ENDORSES COUNCIL MEMBERS
ALEXA AVILÉS & TIFFANY CABÁN

New York City Democratic Socialists of America (NYC-DSA) vote to re-endorse York City Council Members Alexa Avilés (District 38) and Tiffany Cabán (District 22).

NEW YORK — The New York City Democratic Socialists of America (NYC-DSA) has again voted to endorse New York City Council Members Alexa Avilés (District 38) and Tiffany Cabán (District 22). Both Democratic Socialists are running for re-election in the Democratic Primary on June 24.

“Alexa and Tiffany have been the strongest defenders of working people in the City Council since they were first elected in 2021. They’ve fought tirelessly against our corrupt mayor’s budget cuts to schools and libraries, won protections for abortion care, and are leading the fight against Trump’s hostile executive orders. At a time when the president and our own mayor are threatening the public institutions that faithfully serve our city’s working class, a vote for Alexa or Tiffany is a vote for New York City that allows all New Yorkers to thrive, not just those at the very top,” said Gustavo Gordillo, co-chair of NYC-DSA.

As Chair of the Immigration Committee, Aviles has never wavered in her fight to maintain New York’s status as a sanctuary city and to protect our neighbors from punitive ICE raids that unnecessarily threaten their safety and ability to thrive in the city they call home.

“I’m proud to receive NYC-DSA’s endorsement for my re-election. In a moment when unelected billionaires are holding our federal government hostage, people-powered organizations like ours [NYC-DSA] are vital in fighting for a future that works for all of us, not just the wealthy,” Avilés said.

For four years Cabán has been a stalwart supporter of LGBTQIA New Yorkers, organized labor, and public safety. She sees our city’s budget as a moral document. She is currently championing Crisis to Care, a $61 million budget allocation to address mental and public health crises that for far too long have fallen at the hands of the NYPD, not trained healthcare professionals.

“From the streets to the halls of power, NYC-DSA continues to lead the fight against Mayor Adams’ austerity agenda and Trump’s fascist administration. I look forward to continuing to build power for everyday New Yorkers alongside our [NYC-DSA] membership,” Cabán said.

NYC-DSA remains committed to electing leaders who prioritize the needs of working-class New Yorkers over corporate interests and right-wing austerity. By re-electing Alexa Avilés and Tiffany Cabán, voters have the chance to strengthen a movement that fights for fully funded public services, tenants’ rights, and a city that works for everyone. As the June 24 Democratic Primary approaches, NYC-DSA urges all New Yorkers to stand with these proven champions for the working class at the ballot box.
