NEW YORK – On Sunday, Nov. 2, hundreds of thousands of working class and immigrant New Yorkers will launch the People’s Majority Alliance ahead of the general election on November 4 to win Zohran Mamdani’s affordability platform and beat back Cuomo’s billionaire super PAC donors. Working class New Yorkers will get out the vote for mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, rallying at Sunset Park before canvassing in the neighborhood. The rally will be joined by electeds including CM Alexa Avilés and AM Marcela Mitaynes; and will be hosted by labor unions, DSA, tenant and immigrant groups, and other working class organizations that delivered Mamdani a historic 13-point victory over Cuomo in June. Community leaders and members will speak in support of Mamdani and commit to winning a rent freeze, fast and free buses, and universal childcare, in the face of a deepening affordability crisis and escalating ICE deportations. Canvassers will then get out the vote in Sunset Park, a hotly contested neighborhood that turned out for Cuomo but made gains with Mamdani during the June primary.

The People’s Majority alliance formed in order to address the impacts of New York City’s worsening affordability crisis and ICE escalations under Trump. Organizations in the alliance include CAAAV Voice, CIR-SEIU, Doctors Council SEIU, DRUM Beats, IATSE 161, Jews For Racial & Economic Justice, New York City Democratic Socialists of America, New York Communities For Change, Professional Staff Congress City University of New York, Teamsters Local 804, The NYS Tenant Bloc, and United Auto Workers.
Since October 2024, organizations in the alliance have actively expanded the progressive electorate by securing hundreds of thousands of commitments from working class and immigrant voters citywide and in contested neighborhoods. Organization membership spans Black and immigrant working class New Yorkers citywide, including students, retirees, tenants, teachers, homecare workers, nurses, cab and rideshare drivers, delivery workers, restaurant workers, construction workers, street vendors, and more. Members hail from over 20 different countries—Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Barbados, China, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Granada, Guyana, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nepal, Pakistan, Puerto Rico, Suriname, Tibet, Trinidad and Tobago.
The New York City mayoral race between Mamdani and his opponent Andrew Cuomo has become a flashpoint between organized people and organized money. During the June primary, working class and immigrant organizations delivered Mamdani a historic victory, beating Cuomo by more than a 10 percent margin. Despite his overwhelming loss, Cuomo remains in the race, attracting tens of millions of dollars in super PAC money from billionaire donors, including real estate developers, MAGA Trump supporters, and corporate executives.
