TODAY, 5:30 PM: New Yorkers to Rally Outside Governor Hochul’s Manhattan Office (919 3rd Ave) for Taxes on the Rich

The rally comes just days after City Council Speaker Julie Menin joined Mayor Mamdani to call on Albany to tax the rich through PTET reductions

19 were arrested last week occupying Governor Hochul’s office for taxes on the rich

NEW YORK, NY – Today, April 30 at 5:30 PM, New Yorkers will rally outside New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s Midtown office (919 3rd Ave, New York NY) to call on her to tax the rich. Elected officials including State Senator Kristen Gonzalez, Assemblymember Diana Moreno, and Councilmembers Chi Ossé and Alexa Avilés will speak.

The state budget is nearly a month late, and popular pressure is mounting on Governor Hochul to listen to her constituents instead of her wealthy donors. On Tuesday, City Council Speaker Julie Menin joined Mayor Mamdani to vocally support reducing the PTET tax credit, a measure that targets the hidden wealth of millionaires and multi-millionaires. Last week, 19 New Yorkers were arrested after occupying the Governor’s office to demand she tax the rich and protect the million-plus New Yorkers about to lose healthcare. Unions representing over 300,000 members statewide signed a letter backing taxes on wealthy individuals and corporations.

Today, New Yorkers will escalate pressure on the Governor to make the wealthy and corporations pay what they owe to fund Mayor Mamdani’s wildly popular vision of an affordable New York where the working class can thrive.
