The Democratic Socialists of America is the largest socialist organization in the United States, with over 100,000 members and chapters in all 50 states. We're really thrilled you're considering being a part of our movement — welcome!

As a membership organization, dues are the backbone of our national and local operations. We encourage NYC-DSA members to pay both national and local dues.

DSA is a national organization, and NYC-DSA is one of its many chapters. (You'll find DSA chapters in all 50 states — from Birmingham DSA to Boise DSA, and many places in between.) To join DSA, enroll in national dues.

If you live in any of New York City's five boroughs, you'll be enrolled as a member of both the national organization and our local chapter, NYC-DSA. 20% of monthly dues directly fund our chapter's work; the other 80% funds the national chapter. You can also apply for a dues waiver.

Local dues directly fund the work of our chapter, and are a 100% contribution to NYC-DSA, an entirely member-funded organization.

Local dues fund:

  • Rent, utilities, and supplies for our office and event space.
  • Literature and materials for our campaigns.
  • Technology and tools, from Zoom subscriptions for meetings, to the software that allows our event calendar to populate.
  • Staff, who take on a wide array of tasks to support our tens of thousands of members.
