STATEMENT: NYC-DSA OPPOSES STATE PAROLE BOARD COMMISSIONER NOMINEES WHO WOULD WORSEN MASS INCARCERATION
NYC-DSA CALLS ON STATE SENATE TO REJECT ANA ENRIGHT AND ERIN MCCABE TO STATE PAROLE BOARD
NEW YORK, NY – Mass incarceration is a war on working class people, especially Black and brown New Yorkers. As the main mechanism of release for people in the state prison system, the New York State Parole Board gatekeeps this crisis. This Board has historically been and remains primarily staffed by commissioners, appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate, who come from punitive, law-enforcement backgrounds. Ana Enright and Erin McCabe, two of Governor Hochul’s most recent nominations to the Parole Board, would only worsen this system of punishment.
For decades, McCabe and Enright have contributed in both rank-and-file and leadership law enforcement positions, to the expansion of New York’s mass criminalization and mass incarceration systems. They will only cause more harm as commissioners on the Parole Board. NYC-DSA unequivocally opposes their nominations and calls on New York State Senators to reject their confirmation to the parole board.
