About Us

Who We Are

New York City Democratic Socialists of America (NYC-DSA) is the NYC chapter of Democratic Socialists of America, the largest socialist organization in the United States with over 90,000 members (as of February, 2021). NYC-DSA is run by its thousands of members and activists who are working together to build a democratic socialist organization in the five boroughs.

Membership

We welcome all people, members and non-members, to our protests, rallies, canvasses, and many events. Membership in the national Democratic Socialists of America organization and residency in New York City are the requirements to be considered a member of NYC-DSA. As per our constitution, you must be a member to vote in our chapter elections or hold elected office within the organization.

Branches

NYC-DSA has several branches that meet on a monthly basis. Branches are organized by geography (zip code) or by a common project (like the Labor Branch). While members of NYC-DSA meet in several different branches, we also organize together to build socialism across the five boroughs.

Working Groups

In addition to our geographically-based branches, NYC-DSA has a handful of campaign working groups that are coordinating NYC-DSA’s work on specific issues. All members are encouraged to join a working group.

Steering Committee

The Steering Committee is the elected leadership of the NYC-DSA city chapter. The co-chairs, treasurer, secretary, working group coordinator, and membership coordinator are elected at the annual city convention. The branch representatives are elected by their respective branches.
